About
[shào-xī] BLUE is an art brand that reimagines clothing as both object and inquiry, embracing ambiguity, creative process, and the power of mistake as methods of design.
Founded by Grace Chen—a self-taught fashion designer, multidisciplinary artist, and writer—the brand moves through deconstruction, remake, improvisation, and poetic construction to resist the logic of dominant systems and singular style.
Born amidst the upheavals of 2020, [shào-xī] BLUE began with a question: Can ‘art-things’ transform? Can clothing be a form of disruption, care, and becoming?
Each piece reflects a world of process: garments stitched from remnants, bags collaged from fragments, original prints, and silhouettes reshaped and left raw on purpose. Drawing influence from spiritual practice, the fragmented symbols of American style, and the undone beauty of layered contradiction, the work lives between artefact and streetwear—between something sacred and something worn.
Grace, born in LA and now based in Philadelphia, weaves visual languages that are wild, free, and unapologetically layered. Through [shào-xī] BLUE, she builds a body of work that invites you to consider material resistance not just as sustainability, but as transformation—as story, as protest, and as a search for place—a room of one’s own.
